Negaunee's Lucy Hill is the only competition track for natural luge in the United States!
US athletes train here before traveling to World Cup and World Championship competitions in Europe.
The Lucy Hill track record in the current configuration is 0:57.06 by Torrey Cookman, who broke the previous record (by 1/100th of a second) in March 2025.

The club encourages "all ages and abilities" to try luge on our beginner track, shown in blue on the map.
We have regular hours open for public sliding - see our calendar.  The club shares its sleds, helmets, and braking shoes.  We've hosted smiling people age 2-82. You just arrive dressed for the weather!

NATURBAHN LUGE:You've seen luge sleds rocketing down ice-glazed tubes during the Winter Olympics--that's Kunstbahn (or Artificial Track) luge. Naturbahn (or Natural Track) luge is even more exciting because the track winds down a natural, unrefrigerated hill, bordered by boards and snow banks. A Naturbahn luge sled is similar to an old-fashioned wooden sled with metal runners. Naturbahn athletes steer the sled with their feet, hands, and bodies. They use their bodies to speed up, slow down, and steer the sled around the corners of the icy track. Naturbahn luge is a unique sport, and exciting for athletes and spectators.

OPEN FOR PUBLIC SLIDING AND EVENTS: Come to the place where athletes train for international competition, and experience for yourself the thrill of skimming down an ice-covered track aboard a luge sled. The bottom section of the track is open for public sliding. The public is welcome to come out and receive instruction during the winter months (please see our Reservations page). Equipment and instruction are included, so all you have to do is dress for the cold. Come for the afternoon and bring your friends! You can reserve the hill for private parties, too. It's a unique event for birthdays, corporate retreats, or youth groups.  More information? See our Contact Page.

Want to see what's up there, beyond the public sliding limit?  This video shows an experienced club slider racing from the top of the track.  There is also a walking path for athletic guests to reach the top.

Want to learn more about steering natural track luge?  While not necessary for a first-time visitor, this five minute training video helps members (and visitors) get the most from their time on the hill.

Did you know?

The Lucy Hill Naturbahn Luge track was designed by civil engineer Per Vinberg of Stockholm, Sweden, and built circa 1990.

Naturbahn luge tracks follow the natural terrain - the curves are not artificially elevated.  As a result, precise braking (via spiked boots) is an important part of the sport.
